Weekly Review 18th – 24th of March 2013
Played 90 minutes today against ADO 20′ 2, a Topklasse side, so I was up for playing against good opponents! We had a bit of an injury/sickness crisis today and had alot of players missing, so I started the match. Coach started me as a number 6 and my role was to just mark the furthest attacking midfielder. Did okay there, but then the coach switched me to right back because it was difficult for the other players to tell me what to do in that position – in other words, there’s a language barrier. Not really what you want to hear, but I did better than I have done better than any other game today, than in the last month as a right back. There’s still some confusion on who I’m supposed to be marking/me telling someone who to mark, but I made sure I didn’t make any of the mistakes I did in previous games and yeah I think today was a sign I’m getting better in this position. Okay, we lost 5-0 but the opposition were much better than us, they played the ball quickly in attack, lots of 1-2’s and lots of runs, it was real quality teamwork. I think I have also established myself as the free kick and corner taker in the team which gives further reason to start more games now.
Played the second half of the U/23’s game on Tuesday, but that’s hardly worth talking about – it was against a rubbish team.
Trained again on Friday at Damsko – got some papers from Mike which supposedly let me train at Ajax’s facilities tomorrow at 9am. I really have no idea what I’m going to be doing there, but I’m supposed to bring my football clothes with me. I will be with Nico and 1-2 other guys I believe and if I can have a kick around at their famous training ground – that’s gold! Only challenge is that I begin mid terms tomorrow!
Got an inMail message from a guy in India who asked if I was interested in playing in the I-league 2nd division. He’s setting up a team and looking for 4 foreign players. I gave him a call not with the intent of saying I’m interested in playing there (don’t think it’s the right place for me right now 😀 ), but to talk about Moses getting a coaching position there. Shared contact details of him and talked him up a bit so hopefully he’ll give him a call! Fingers crossed.

Goal Journal

Long term goals
Play professionally by end of summer 2013
Short term goals
1. be more explosive
doing this!
General comment: Really focusing my workout exercises on more dynamic, explosive ones. Focus less on the arms now.
2. make a real habit of scanning alot
General comment: Not scanning enough and not making a real habit when I could really shine out of tight positions.
3. Ongoing – Find out what makes great players, great. What separates the “great” from the “good.
“I love experienced people. I love people who are phenomenally talented. I love people who’ve worked so hard and been so courageous and are the leaders in their fields. For me to meet somebody like that and learn from them and share words with them—to me that’s magic.” – Michael Jackson, on filming The Wiz
This quote represents a constant search of learning, connecting with those that are so great and remarkable and understanding how that fits in with your own life. I love that and Michael Jackson loved that too then maybe that’s a big factor to why he was so successful (and still is even after his death!)

4. Defend better

1. Play the long ball forward, instead of a risky passback.
2. Don’t let the attacker run inside of your position. Running inside is the quickest way through on goal.
Made sure I didn’t let this happen and defended better for it. What I need to work on now is communication and who should be marking who.
5. Build LinkedIn network
Added a few contacts..
6. Plan better.
I need to be more efficent about exactly what I’m going to do in my workouts, rather than just make it up as I go.
accomplished: be stronger off the ball,  quicker plays
Plan & Checklist – Missed 2 hours of work. Have 10 hours next week due to exams. So 10 + 2 = 12 hours of training.
Monday: training at ajax + economics exam
Tuesday: gym + training + game analysis
Wednesday: training at ajax? + accounting exam
Thursday: club training + stay behind
Friday: damsko session + gym
Sat: rest
Sunday: game

In 2009, I was an average soccer player with a dream. I started this blog to document my journey from local underdog to getting offered over $100,000 in soccer scholarships, a contract to play professionally and the experience of playing in Europe.
