Weekly Review 27th – 2nd June 2013

Did bit of a jog and gym on Monday. Trained with Damsko on Tuesday, Wednesday. Played a match with the 3rd team on Thursday against the same team we played on the previous Sunday. I got there towards half time because I had an exam. I thought it was a friendly, but someone told me out it was a semi final playoff.. not for promotion, but to prevent getting relegated. The match was 1-1 after full time. We scored a penalty in extra time and I sealed it off with a nice finish outside of the box 10 minutes before the final whistle.

Coach pointed out to me whilst playing, don’t be static, move & move. I think he was right and just maybe the answer to getting on the ball more.
Friday was another Damsko session. When Ian came to pick me up, I saw another head in the car. That head turned out to be a guy I trained with at Volendam! Funny how small the football community is. Alot of people know each other.
Sunday was the final match of the season. The 3rd team really wanted me to come play for them in their playoff final, so we played against Nieuw-West who were basically a team of Moroccans. Heated match. We were down 1-0. Then level 1-1 and in the second half I received a pass 20m out from goal, controlled with the bottom of my foot and boom! Flew over the keepers head into the back of the net. Apart from that I played kinda tiredly and not with much concentration. Probably didn’t get enough sleep. So my goal ended up being the winner and everyone was giving their congrats. The rest of that day was spent studying for these fucking exams.
It’s Monday afternoon now. Exams will be done by Friday and Saturday I’ll be on the plane to NYC! Hehe can’t wait!

Goal Journal

My Vision
Long term goals
Play professionally by end of summer 2013
Short term goals
1. improve my confidence on:
  • 1-on-1’s
  • Receiving with back to ball
& become a more valuable player by..
  • Looking for more ways I can get on the ball

Getting on the ball more by positioning oneself on edge of box for 1 touch, shot.

Making inside runs, you can get on the ball so much more as I found in training this week.
Coach pointed out to me whilst playing, don’t be static, move & move. I think he was right and just maybe the answer to getting on the ball more.
2. make a real habit of scanning alot
I think this is becoming better.. but not a habit.
General comment: Improving, and I really want to shine more out of tight positions.

3. Ongoing – Find out what makes great players, great. What separates the “great” from the “good”.
4. Defend better

a. communication
b. knowing who should be marking who.figuring this one out…
As a right winger I don’t think I really have problems defending. Communication also improving.
watch for preferred foot of the player
5. Build LinkedIn network
Added a few contacts..
6. Plan better.
I need to be more efficient about exactly what I’m going to do in my workouts, rather than just make it up as I go.
accomplished: be stronger off the ball, quicker plays, don’t let attackers run inside, play long ball forward instead of risky passback, be more explosive
Plan & Checklist – 12 hour schedule this week., 10.5  hours have been completed! next Week is 10 hours due to exams and traveling

In 2009, I was an average soccer player with a dream. I started this blog to document my journey from local underdog to getting offered over $100,000 in soccer scholarships, a contract to play professionally and the experience of playing in Europe.
