Weekly Review 21st – 27th March 2011 [unused again]

28 March 2011

It’s 2am as I’m writing this and a whole weekend of football has ended. I was a unused sub for the first team on Saturday’s game. It’s bullshit, technically I am better than most of the players and I think it’s caused players in the team to point out more loudly to the coach that the team needs me. The problem is, the coach is a fat idiot according to the team, but I have no idea what he’s saying during pre-match and half time talks, but usually a few of the guys are having a laugh because he probably has the slightest clue about what he’s saying + the player in my position is like a teachers pet (apparently). I guess the situation will get better in the coming weeks and I will get more playing time, but it’s frustrating to take 5 or 6 hours out of your day, travel to the other side of the city and back, to sit on the bench and not even play.

Today’s game was better with the reserves. We played against a pretty good reserve side. Played the full match as a right centre mid in a 4-3-2-1 formation, more defensive minded as last time our team apparently lost 10-0. I played well and got lots of tackles in. But 0-0 and 10 minutes to go, a penalty was conceded and they scored. And in the last few, there was a corner, I let my marker go really easily and he scored. I gotta say that sometimes I let the guy I mark go easily. I think it’s just coz I’m scared to grab him and push him which sounds pretty lame. I will toughen up there. But overall, I got a lot of praise from my team mates and like I said, hopefully I will start actually playing with the first team.

Not much else to say. No news on the Belgium trial.

Oh, and I finished mocks, so for the next month or so I think I have a little less homework.. I hope 😛 The final exams take place in May. After that I’m done and out!

In 2009, I was an average soccer player with a dream. I started this blog to document my journey from local underdog to getting offered over $100,000 in soccer scholarships, a contract to play professionally and the experience of playing in Europe.
